January 5, 2013BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ray Graham has a hamstring injury and will not play in Saturday's BBVA Compass Bowl, Pitt announced prior to the game.
With that announcement, Graham ends his Pitt career as the Panthers' second all-time leading rusher with 3,271 yards. He is also second on Pitt's all-purpose list with 4,943 yards. Graham scored 36 touchdowns in his four years at Pitt, which ties him with LeSean McCoy for fifth all-time.
Graham was Pitt's leading rusher in 2012 with 1,042 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry while fighting back from an ACL injury he suffered in 2011. Graham was also Pitt's third-leading receiver with 36 catches for 340 yards and two touchdowns.
Pitt will also face Ole Miss without redshirt junior linebacker Shane Gordon (neck) and redshirt sophomore tight end Drew Carswell (foot). Gordon recorded 48 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks this season. Carswell caught 13 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Eight of his 13 receptions came in the last three games.
Graham will be replaced by true freshman Rushel Shell, who rushed for 562 yards and four touchdowns on 116 carries (4.8 yards per carry). Redshirt senior Joe Trebitz will start in place of Gordon at middle linebacker. Trebitz started Pitt's games at Notre Dame and at Connecticut this season. He recorded 13 total tackles in the Notre Dame game and nine tackles against Connecticut.
