August 3, 2012The Pitt football team will have one fewer quarterback, one fewer offensive lineman, and one fewer wide receiver when it opens training camp on Monday, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Mark Myers has decided to leave the team, redshirt junior offensive lineman Juantez Hollins has been suspended for the 2012 season, and freshman receiver Chris Davis has been suspended for the first week of training camp.
Myers' decision was first reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and he confirmed to Panther-Lair.com that he will be leaving Pitt. The Tribune-Review reported that Myers will be transferring to a Division III school, but Myers said he has not chosen a destination yet.
Myers informed Pitt head coach Paul Chryst of his decision on Thursday. A 6'4" 235 pounds, Myers joined Pitt with the recruiting class of 2010 as a four-star prospect from Cleveland (Oh.) St. Ignatius. But he was never able to climb to depth chart and made just a handful of appearances on the field in 2011.
Hollins was suspended for the 2012 season due to disciplinary reasons after also missing the spring game in April under similar circumstances. He appeared in all 13 games in 2011 and started seven, and he was the first-team left tackle in training camp before his suspension.
Hollins will continue to practice with the team and attend classes at Pitt during his suspension.
Davis will miss the first week of training camp due to a disciplinary suspension. He was a three-star recruit from Austintown Fitch High School in Ohio and was expected to redshirt.
