Linebacker Max Gruder from the Charlotte Country Day School told the Pantherlair, "I had been discussing committing to Pitt this weekend with my parents. I sent a text message to Coach Wannstedt saying I wanted to talk to him. I just got off the phone about 10 minutes ago. I told him I wanted to play for Pitt. Coach Wannstedt they needed they help at linebacker and that they were graduating three seniors."

Pitt will graduate linebacker H.B. Blades, Clint Session and Brian Bennett. In addition junior linebacker Derron Thomas left the team so building some position at this position was a priority.
