Panther prospects to face each other
Jim Snyder
Panther-lair.com Two prospects that have offers from Pitt both had off this past weekend although for totally different reasons. In a few weeks their teams will face each other.
We caught up win Chaminade-Madonna running back Xavier Stinson who said, "We won our opener easily against Everglades 34-6. I only got four carries for 95 yards and one touchdown. I played a lot on defense at middle linebacker. We had a bye this week and did not play. This coming weekend we play Booker T. at home. They beat us at their place last year so it will be a big game for us. I expect to carry the ball more this week."
Despite playing both ways for the defending Florida state 2A champions Stinson said, "My coach and I made it clear to every team that is recruiting me I want to be a running back in college."
We also spoke to Lakewood St. Edward's Kyle Hubbard who reported, "My team won this past weekend. We beat Shaker Heights 31-0 and are now 2-0. I did not play. I have torn ligament in my ankle and have been doing rehab trying to get it back in shape. I don't know if I will play this week. I am now listed day-to day."
St Edward's faces a tough challenge this coming weekend when they play Cincinnati powerhouse St Xavier at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. They could use Hubbard. St Xavier is the defending Ohio state champion and was ranked No. 4 in the country in the pre-season.
St Edward's (No. 12) schedule won't get a lot easier anytime soon. September 16th they will play Arkansas Springdale at Massillon Tiger Stadium. The following weekend Xavier Stinson and Chaminade-Madonna (No. 23) make the trip up from Florida to play St Edward's in Lakewood Stadium.
St Edward's finished 12-1 in 2006 bowing in a close game to Massillon in the state playoffs. Pitt freshman lineman Joe Thomas was a member of that team.
Hubbard indicated that he has no visits scheduled at this time and plans to make his visits after the season is over. Hubbard is being recruited to Pitt by defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads.
Hubbard plays wide receiver for St Edward's. He said some schools look at him as a wideout while others see him as a tight end. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 39 prospect in the state of Ohio and the No. 37 tight end prospect in the country.
Xavier Stinson is ranked as the No. 48 prospect in the state of Florida. He is ranked as the No. 22 running back prospect in the country.
