Gerhart returns home from Colorado
Garth Gerhart is a top offensive center target on a number of recruiting boards. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder from Norco (Calif.) High School has racked up scholarship offers from 11 different programs: Colorado, Boston College, Boise State, Utah, Colorado State, Hawaii, Baylor, New Mexico State, UNLV, Troy and Duke.
With two-a-days just around the corner, Gerhart wanted to take a trip out to the Centennial State to check out two schools on his list.
"I just got back from Colorado," Gerhart explained. "I wanted to go out there to check out Colorado and Colorado State. I went out there with my dad and my friend, Kyle Johnson, who is going into his junior year. He plays right tackle.
"It was a good trip. Colorado is a beautiful state. I had heard great things about both schools and they both lived up to what I had heard. I liked the coaches a lot at both programs."
Does Gerhart have a favorite with his recruitment?
"Colorado is a pretty strong [favorite]," he stated. "I really like their new coach, Coach Hawkins. It's a beautiful school. I got a chance to meet some of the players and they all said they love it there."
Gerhart earned first-team all-league, all-CIF and all-county honors last fall after racking up 130 pancake blocks. Rivals.com ranks him the 74th best prospect in California from the Class of 2007.
"I pack a good punch," he expressed. "I have good explosiveness off the line and I make the opposing defensive linemen pay. I'm pretty much a good all around lineman. I have good feet, good strength and I'm pretty fast for my size."
