A closer look at Pitt's latest commit

John Fieger became Pitt's fifth commitment of the Class of 2007 yesterday. Fieger has been a standout offensive lineman for coach Keith Leamer for the last two years. Even scarier is the fact that Fieger has only been playing football since eighth grade.

Leamer has known Fieger since he was in kindergarten, and noticed his abilities as a baseball player. Leamer coached him in baseball as a seventh-grader, and eventually coerced him into coming out for the football team in eighth grade.

Despite only playing three years of organized football, Leamer said there was a great amount of interest in John entering his junior year.

In addition to Pitt, Akron and Temple also offered Fieger. He visited Connecticut and Rutgers this past week for camps, and was told he would receive offers. Fieger was also set to visit Virginia when he decided to commit to Pitt.
